Alpine cheese

The Jura vaudois Regional Nature Park, which you sleep in on your last stage of La Route Verte, is characterised by its wooded pastures and its tradition of mountain pasture. In 2020, cheese-making in the high mountain pastures was even included in the inventory of intangible heritage and living traditions of the canton of Vaud. This is a fine recognition for the many farmers’ families who have been working on high pastures for generations! For instance, the Germain family goes up to the Pré-de-Bière chalet every summer, at an altitude of 1345 metres, near the Marchairuz pass. Elisabeth and Philippe will be delighted to let you taste a Gruyère d'alpage AOP fondue or a plate of local products in their pretty dairy shop. You can also watch the cheese being made early in the morning.
